I've gotten a lot of things from my dad. My ability to get injured constantly in random ways comes from him. There's no one else in our family that gets injured like we do.
He helped shape my love of music and fantasy and making art. He was an artist but he no longer makes art. He still loves music and dragons and wizards, though.
He (and my mother) helped me to see the world in a certain way. They helped form the person I am. My manners and morality and the way I think about certain subjects.
I look more like him than I do my mom. You can tell he's my dad.
I developed a good sense of humor and the ability to make witty remarks thanks to him.
I've also gotten a lot of mental and physical issues from him and my mom... Our family has horrible health and mental health issues. You name it, we got it.
I've mentioned this many times and it's even in my Steam bio - I don't sleep good. I have at least 3 sleep disorders that I struggle with. Over time, the sleep deprivation has piled up. My memory is bad. My reflexes are slow. I just zone out and ignore everything happening around me. I also can't physically talk right anymore... All of these things - I've seen happen to my dad. Especially when it comes to talking. He jumbled his words a lot and we'd laugh because it was funny. Now I'm doing it...
You'd think someone not sleeping well is no big deal - they're just tired. It's worse than that. It's harder than that. It doesn't just stop - it piles up over time and everything you've lost, you can't get it back. I will continue to struggle with remembering shit. I will continue to walk in a fog. I will continue to have trouble speaking. I'm just royally fucked xD As is the rest of my family...

One massive, legitimate way to improve as a writer or artist or in any creative endeavor really, is to become absolutely obsessed with something and to allow yourself to be weird about it. Genuinely mean this btw.
